Securely connect tri-clamp ends with heavy-duty, stainless steel single-pin clamp (13MHHM)The single-pin heavy duty clamp with a wingnut is made from 304 stainless steel alloy (Also available in 316). It is used to join two separate tri-clamp ends to one another. Sizes on this product range from 1/2 inch all the way up to 12 inches in diameter. A tri-clamp rubber gasket should be placed between the two flange ends to ensure proper fit and secure connection. Do not over tighten wing-nut as this may damage the product. The recommended amount of tension is to tighten the wing-nut until it becomes snug, then perform one more half twist for the proper amount.

All tri-clamps that we offer should have a very long, useful life. However, given a choice between all of them, our High-Pressure Clamp is probably the most durable due to its design. This clamp requires a wrench or open then clamp by loosening both hex nuts. Since this clamp can not be swung open like most hand-tightened clamps, it's a little harder to cause stress or damage to the bolt. The pins holding the clamps together is another point of failure for some clamp manufacturers.
We are connecting and autoclaving a plastic filter to a SS connection. In my experience, I have been told that any time a plastic sanitary connection is in place, a plastic tri clamp must be used to prevent warping of the plastic. Can you confirm this? Yes, it is recommended to use the plastic tri-clamps when connecting between the two different materials. The plastic/nylon clamps are rated for much less pressure than the stainless steel clamps and there is less of a chance of overtightening the clamp which leads to the warping you mentioned.

Normal clearance for these types of clamps is typically 125% of the original diameter. If clearance is a concern, we recommend the High-Pressure Clamp as this can be installed in two pieces with minimal clearance needed.

The single-pin clamp is the least flexible. If you're working with a tight situation, sometimes it's nice to have a little flexibility to maneuver the clamp into place. Even with that, these clamps can be overtightened. I usually recommend securing the clamp so that it is snug and then going another half to full turn after that. The gasket and clamp will for a leak-proof seal without the need for a super tight connection.
The pictures of these clamps on your website look like the 100-150 PSI rated versions of Single Pin Heavy Duty Sanitary Clamps (13MHHM). Please verify they are of the service duty listed on your website (500 psi at 70°F. At that rating, they should be the duty equivalent of VNE or Dixon 13MHHM clamps.

Q Are sanitary fitting clamps designed to support weight?A Tri-Clamp fittings, specifically the clamps, are not designed to be weight bearing. If you are planning to attach a component to your processing line it must be supported by other means. We do offer a line of tube hangers that can be used to accommodate the extra weight. Typically these tube hangers are mounted to the ceiling.

Hello, this is an interesting question that I have never been asked before. The groove of the single pin heavy duty clamp is going to fit the flange of the tri-clamp connection snugly when properly secured. If I understand your question correctly, you are looking for the height of this groove which should also be equal to the height of the flange.
Using a 2" clamp as an example, you can see from the sizing guide chart that the outside diameter is 2.516" and the inside diameter is 1.870". Subtracting these numbers gives us 0.646", however, this accounts for both the height of both flanges combined. Dividing by 2 the height of the flange, and the groove of the single pin clamp, should both be 0.323" or somewhere really close to this. Applying this formula to the 4" version you'll see that the height/groove size increases along with the flange size.

In this particular case the flange will be slightly bigger than 3". The best way to imagine this is to stand your fitting, flange side down on a piece of paper and tracing it. The outside diameter of a 3" sanitary fitting is 3.717".
